Income-Shares Model
How child support is actually calculated
The income-shares model is the method Florida uses to calculate child support. Both parents’ incomes are combined, the guidelines set the total support the children should receive, and each parent pays a proportional share — adjusted for overnights, health insurance, and childcare. It’s designed so children get roughly the same financial support they’d have if the family were intact.
